What is a neck lift?

A neck lift addresses the natural aging process by improving sagging neck skin and fatty deposits. Additionally, the underlying muscles can be tightened. It requires an incision under the skin. Fat is then suctioned or excised, muscles are tightened, and a small amount of skin may be removed to produce a more youthful neck appearance.
 
Who is a good candidate?

• Good candidates are men or women who demonstrate:

  •	Localized fat deposits under the chin
  •	Laxity of neck muscle and/or neck skin

   

• Non-smokers or have ceased smoking two months prior to the procedure
• Overall good health

What to expect during your consultation.

Dr. Stephenson will evaluate your overall health and more specifically evaluate your skin quality, skin laxity, folds and fatty deposits of the neck.  Additionally, Dr. Stephenson will evaluate your underlying bony anatomy and determine the chin position and its influence on the appearance of the neck.  This evaluation will help Dr. Stephenson develop your individual plan. He will also review the risks involved in neck lift surgery. Dr. Stephenson encourages you to discuss any areas of your appearance that concern you as well what you hope to accomplish with surgery.  This will help him understand your goals/expectations and whether these expectations can be realistically achieved.

Neck Lift Recovery

Swelling and bruising are expected after neck lift surgery. The swelling and bruising will start to resolve during the first week after surgery, although this will vary between patients. A compressive neck dressing is used to help control swelling and to help the neck skin adapt to the new neck contour. Most patients can resume modest activity in two weeks.  Complete recovery occurs in about three to four weeks.
