What is JUVÉDERM®?

JUVÉDERM® is a dermal filler used for the treatment of moderate wrinkles and folds like the nasolabial folds (beside the nose extending down to the corner of the mouth). JUVÉDERM® is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration as well as providing a smooth, natural look and feel.

Who is a good candidate?

Men or women who:

• Are in overall good health
• DO NOT have bleeding problems
• Have moderate nasolabial folds

JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven its safety and effectiveness in persons of color. Studies with JUVÉDERM® showed no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients of color.

The JUVÉDERM® procedure
Dr. Stephenson will review evaluate the folds that concern you to make sure that placement of JUVÉDERM® will be the right procedure for you.  Dr. Stephenson encourages you to ask questions and to point out any other areas of concern.  The fold or line will have a small amount of local and topical anesthetic placed for maximal patient comfort. JUVÉDERM® is introduced beneath the skin of the fold or line that needs more volume. JUVÉDERM® is placed only by our board certified plastic surgeon to make sure that you get the best result possible.

When will you see results?
The effect of JUVÉDERM® is immediate and results last about a year.  After the treatment, some temporary injection-related reactions may occur, including redness, firmness and swelling. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period.

JUVÉDERM® recovery
There is minimal down time with JUVÉDERM®.  If swelling and bruising do occur they will resolve in a several of days but this varies among patients.  You are able resume your normal activities that day. 

JUVÉDERM® Credentials
Credentials matter. Dr. Stephenson is board certified in two important surgical specialties for placement of dermal fillers.  His certifications include the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
