What is a Buttocks Augmentation (Brazilian Butt Lift)?

Brazilian butt lift involves liposuction to remove excess fat with the use of a device that suctions fat from beneath the skin. Fluid containing local anesthetic and adrenaline (tumescent fluid) is introduced beneath the areas of excess fat.  The tumescent fluid increases patient comfort and decreases bruising.  Controlled removal of fluid and fat is accomplished. Liposuction can be performed on the abdomen, back, love handles, hips, and/or inner and outer thighs to obtain fat and contour the areas of the body adjacent to the buttocks.  The fat is prepared and transferred in precise manner to the buttocks to improve the contour and size of the buttocks. 
 
Who is a good candidate?

Good candidates are women who demonstrate:

• A lack of excess or sagging skin
• A resonable weight close to ideal but not obese
• Stable weight
• Localized excess fatty deposits
• A flattened shape or lack of contour to the buttocks
• Non-smokers or have ceased smoking two months prior to the procedure
• Overall good health

What to expect during your consultation

Dr. Stephenson will evaluate your overall health and more specifically evaluate your skin quality, the amount of fat present and the contour/shape of your buttocks to develop your individual plan. He will also review the risks of buttocks augmentation surgery.  Dr. Stephenson encourages you to discuss any areas of your appearance that concern you as well what you hope to accomplish with surgery.  This will help Dr. Stephenson understand your goals/expectations and whether these expectations can be realistically achieved. 

Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery

Swelling and bruising are expected after Brazilian butt lift.  The bruising and much of the swelling will disappear over several weeks although this will vary between patients. However, it may be months before all swelling subsides and you see the final result of your liposuction procedure. A compression garments will be required to control swelling and to help the overlying tissues adapt to your new contour. Protection of the transferred fat is important therefore sitting directly on the buttocks is avoided for up to four weeks after surgery.  You should be able to return to very modest duties in two weeks with complete recovery in about six weeks.
