What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple, non-surgical, treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe active wrinkles of the forehead, between the eyebrows (glabella area), around the eyes (crows’ feet), and over the upper bridge of the nose (bunny line). BOTOX® is not the right option for wrinkles that are present without facial activity or expression (“static wrinkle”).  BOTOX® is a purified protein that is excellent for decreasing the activity of muscles that cause active (“dynamic”) wrinkles over time.
 
Who is a good candidate?

Good candidates are men or women who demonstrate:

• Active wrinkles of the upper face
• Overall good health

What to expect during your consultation.

Dr. Stephenson will evaluate your overall health and more specifically evaluate your skin quality, skin laxity, and the activity of your wrinkles in the upper third of your face.  This evaluation will help Dr. Stephenson develop your individual plan for the appropriate amount of BOTOX® needed. He will also review the risks involved with BOTOX® treatment. Dr. Stephenson encourages you to discuss any areas of your appearance that concern you as well what you hope to accomplish with the procedure.  This will help him understand your goals/expectations and whether these expectations can be realistically achieved.   Dr. Stephenson’s goal is to soften the active wrinkles and NOT to immobilize the face.

Who performs the procedure?

Many other offices, med-spas or clinics may have a non-physician provider administer BOTOX® injections. At Signature Plastic Surgery, we have our board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Earl Stephenson, Jr. perform the procedure himself.  This is to ensure that is the safest approach is used when administering BOTOX® to the complex muscles of the face or muscles around the eyes.

How long will it last?

BOTOX® usually last on the average of four months.   If you are pleased with your results it is best to get on a treatment schedule.  If you discontinue your treatment schedule then the wrinkles will gradually return to their appearance before treatment.          

Botox Recovery

Discomfort is usually minimal. Occasionally, the tiny needle may nick a small blood vessel during the injection and a small bruise may develop. This can last from five to ten days and can require makeup to cover. There is minimal downtime.
