Dr. Stephenson is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.  This is the only medical specialty board for aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
           
Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery ensures:

• A plastic surgeon has at least five years of surgical training
• An additional two to three years of training in plastic and reconstructive surgery 
• Completion rigorous written and oral examination in addition to verification of operative cases

Additionally physicians certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery are required to complete a rigorous recertification process to assure they are providing the highest level of patient care. 

This is important because any doctor, regardless of training, can perform aesthetic surgery or provide minimally invasive aesthetic services.  These doctors may cite the qualification that they are “Board Certified”, but this certification may not be in plastic and reconstructive surgery.  Doctors who perform aesthetic surgery without certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery are not held to the standards outlined above.  If you have any questions about board certification please visit the links below or contact our office.
