Earl Stephenson, Jr. is native of Portsmouth, Virginia.  Dr. Stephenson began his professional career as an oral & maxillofacial surgeon practicing in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  While practicing oral surgery in Tulsa, Dr. Stephenson’s interest in complex facial surgery grew and thus he earned admission to medical school at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia.  Dr. Stephenson completed medical school and completed an internship at the Methodist Hospital of Memphis focusing on general surgery, head and neck surgery and critical care management.  After completing this advanced training, Dr. Stephenson was one a very select oral and maxillofacial surgeons with both degrees in dentistry and medicine.  Dr. Stephenson was recruited by one of the largest oral & maxillofacial surgery groups in the nation located in Atlanta, Georgia.
 
Dr. Stephenson practiced complex oral & maxillofacial surgery successfully in Alpharetta and Atlanta for several years.  His practice further stimulated his interest in surgery to manage surgical issues pertaining to the entire body.  Dr. Stephenson left his busy practice to pursue training in plastic & reconstructive surgery.  He subsequently trained in general surgery at the Atlanta Medical Center and completed a plastic & reconstructive surgery residency at Erlanger Medical Center/University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Medical Unit. Now with this unique training, Dr. Stephenson was on a few plastic surgeons in the nation with both medical and dental degrees in addition to dual training in oral & maxillofacial surgery and plastic & reconstructive surgery. 

Dr. Stephenson returned to Atlanta and practiced in downtown Atlanta and Smyrna over the next couple of years focusing on aesthetic surgery and major craniofacial trauma surgery but felt his vision for the practice of plastic surgery was not being fulfilled.  Dr. Stephenson subsequently took the vision of Signature Plastic Surgery that revolves around exceptional patient care, patient safety, and appropriate and effective treatments in a friendly environment and opened his own private practice in metro Atlanta.
